About Us

The Partnership for Families Northside (PFFN) is a pioneering initiative established with a unique model and mission.
It is a collaborative arrangement formed with more than a dozen local human services agencies that allows North Richmond parents (with children 5 and younger) to receive numerous free services, including:
- Home visits
- Assistance with securing early childhood education and high quality child care for children 5 and younger
- Access to health care and insurance for their children
- Job skills training and job placement
- Tools and services that help parents/caregivers better provide for their children, such as:
- Family literacy and support to further one’s education
- Parenting support, education and empowerment
PFFN offers “one-stop shopping” of sorts for human services needs that can strengthen parents and their children and equip everyone in the family for long-term success.
The organization is one of only a few nonprofits around the nation using a collaborative method to engage and support famlies.

PFFN specifically assists parents with children 5 and younger with the ulimate goal of helping these parents prepare their youngsters to enter school healthy and ready to learn.
The organization focuses solely on the Northside area of the City of Richmond area because the same issues that lead this community to be one of Richmond’s most challenging, are ones that if, tackled properly, can lead it to become one of Richmond’s jewels.
Parents whose children are 5 and younger can contact PFFN to request assistance with needs ranging from GED preparation and job readiness skills, to referrals to child care providers and family counselers or local parenting classes.
When PFFN staff members receive requests for information, they pair parents with the Partner agencies that best address their concerns or meet their needs. (Visit the Parents page to learn more the particular services each Partner offers.)
Since its inception in 2003 and launch in 2004, PFFN has been funded by The Robins Foundation, which believes that every child deserves a strong start, and parents who are prepared to give them just that.
Since PFFN was launched in 2004, 85 percent of young children in North Richmond now enter kindergarten on time and prepared to learn, compared with approximately 30 percent five years ago.
PFFN is spearheading the construction of a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly family learning center that will be located in the Ginter Park community and serve children throughout North Richmond, beginning in June 2010.
